Abstract

The incidence of ITP is around 66 cases/1,000,000 per year. The treatment is instituted if platelet is less than 30x109/L. treatment is based on steroid, immunoglobulin and platelet transfusion2. Acute ITP usually follows acute infection and resolve within 2 months while chronic ITP persists longer than 6 months. In children, there is high (80%) spontaneous remission rate1. Spontaneous remission is less common in adults (2%). However, 64% of them do eventually recover, while 30% have chronic disease and 5% die from bleeding1.
